‘Portuguese Guards’, 156 Rua Sao Bento, Lisboa
1997

I was recently staying in a flat on the third floor along Rua Sao Bento opposite the Lisbon Houses of Parliament. The building was set back from the road and had many steps leading up to it. My third floor flat was on the same level as its entrance. On the street below was a bus stop and many little shops. One day at 5pm I opened the windows in the building I was staying, positioned speakers facing out of the building, and played music from Elgar's Variations. Two march tunes repeatedly. I played this recording for one hour. This music could be heard by the guards outside the parliament building evidenced by them changing their step in time to the music.
